The Institutional Review Board (IRB) at Bergen Community College (BCC) consists of a representative group of faculty and staff who review research proposals that entail obtaining information about BCC students or employees to ensure that these studies protect the privacy and dignity of study subjects. Proposals that meet the federal guidelines for such research will receive IRB approval.

Proposals for IRB review must be submitted by a BCC faculty member or employee and have the approval of their supervisor. Non-BCC employees wishing to conduct research on BCC students or employees must have their proposal submitted by a BCC faculty member or employee; who agrees to be responsible for the conduct of the study and that all reporting requirements are met.

This section will provide you with an understanding of the purposes of IRB review, guidance in deciding whether your project requires IRB review, instructions on how to apply for IRB review, and an overview of the process.

All surveys and research conducted by outside researchers must be submitted to the IRB for review.
