COLLEGE FOUNDATION
CIARCO LEARNING CENTER

Since 1970, the Bergen Community College Learning Center has provided educational and counseling support for adults who have not completed their formal high school education. Also available are English as a Second Language and State supported tuition-funded college level and non-credit courses. The building houses 36 classrooms, a large meeting hall and four computer laboratories.

The 55,500 square-foot facility was named the Philip J. Ciarco, Jr. Learning Center in tribute by his son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Kathleen Ciarco (alumna Class of 1989). The naming funds established the Ciarco Family Foundation Endowed Scholarship Fund for deserving students attending BCC.

Philip Ciarco, Jr. was a self-made man. He left school at the age of 13 to help support his family. Through hard work and an unending desire to learn, he became a licensed electrician, plumber and owner of Mercer Fuel Oil Co. while continuing to serve as a service manager for a local company for over 40 years. Philip Ciarco not only exhibited an excellent work ethic, but also was totally devoted to his family and to supporting the community of Lyndhurst, where he resided for 50 years.

The Ciarco Family is proud to honor the memory of their father by lending his name to this Learning Center that will forevermore provide the skills and knowledge necessary for the achievement and success of all people.
