Biography: In 1984 I graduated from Jerusalem's King Ghazi High School and received my Associate’s degree in General Science from Tulkarm Community College in 1986. Then I worked as a Junior High School teacher for one year. In 1989, I came to the United States to continue my education. Upon my arrival in New Jersey, I realized that it would be very difficult to go to school because I couldn't afford the very high cost of education. I found a job in a fast food restaurant and also took ESL classes (English as a Second Language) to improve my English. In 1993, I became a resident of the United States of America. I was accepted to Montclair State University and majored in Biology. I graduated in May 1996. After a summer break of three months, I returned to Montclair State and pursued a Master's of Science degree in Molecular Biology and graduated in August 1998. I started to realize how much I enjoyed learning and decided to enter Medical School. I was accepted to Iberoamerican University; School of Medicine, and graduated in July 2004.

What made you decide to become a faculty/staff member?: I really enjoy teaching and I view being a professor as a unique opportunity to be part of a young person’s development. Each milestone in my life is highlighted by a realization brought about by the influence of someone I have worked with during my career. These turning points have played a role in the development of the person that I am today. It is my goal to contribute and pass on the knowledge that I have acquired to the next generation of students. I truly believe that Bergen Community College is the best place for me to accomplish this goal.

How do you personally define success in the learning outcomes of your students?: Success is not easy to define because each person interprets it in a different way. The meaning of success may also change throughout the course of a person’s life. Although views of success may differ, it appears that most people associate it with accomplishing a set of predetermined goals. In my A&P class, students associate success with obtaining a great deal of knowledge, getting a good grade, and meeting and making new friends.

What have you learned from your students?:Every time I teach a class or lab, I feel that I learn something valuable from my students. Their questions often make me look at the subject material in a way that I had not thought of before and this allows me to broaden my own understanding. I am not afraid to admit when I do not know the answer to a question and I present the situation as an opportunity to learn along with my students.
