SGA Accomplishments

• Conducted scholarship workshops
• Participated in the devlopment and finalization of the Schedule Grid
• Participated in the Active Shooters Drill with the Bergen County Police and EMS
• Raised funds as part of the American Cancer Society Walk
• Initiated the All Club Presidents board meeting that specifies responsibilities and participation guidelines
• Together with the Environmental Club, developed and promoted the vision for the Bergen Goes Green Initiative and the Statewide Sustainability Conference.
• Participated in the groundbreaking ceremonies for the new Science Wing
• Contributed to the organizational efforts for the grand opening of Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands
• Proposed the vision for Bergen Community College's very own Volunteer Ambulance squad
• SGC President Ron Subramanian appointed as representative to the Clinton Global Initiative
• Member and partner in the Bergen Community College Shared Governance Committee
• Member and partner in the Bergen Community College Master Plan Committee
• Five SGC members appointed by Bergen Community College President G. Jeremiah Ryan to serve on the newly-formed College Council
• Attended and participated in the United Nations Association Mid-Atlantic Conference
• Participated in fundraising activities with the Habitat for Humanity walk
• Active membership in committees involved with issues of importance to the student body (identifying professors with their listed course sections, class cancellation listings on the Web, improving the College's web site, etc.)
• In concert with the Student Activities Board and the Department of Stucent Life, organized the annual Christmas Toy Drive
• Participation in the Committee for the planning and implementation of the renovation of the Bergen Community College Student Center
• Invited to attend the Inauguration of Barack Obama, the 44th President of the United States
• Active participants in the Coney Island Beach Cleaning project
• Participants in the National Association for Campus Activities (NACA) Student Government East conference
• Authored and championed the Textbook Resolution
• Authored and recommended new, more stringent guidelines for enforcing the on-campus Smoking Ban
• Advocated Online Registration for International students in the second semester
• SGC President Ron Subramanian appointed to the Higher Education Student Assistant Authority
• Recommended at least one civic engagement activity each semester for all active student clubs
• Active participation in the Rotary International, Bergen Community College Chapter
• Engaged in the 2008 Voter Registration Campaign bringing more than four thousand first-time voters into the Presidential Election process
• Implementation of a major Recycling program together with the Environmental Club and the Buldings and Maintenance department
• Engaging our state and local politicians on a regular basis to advocate on matters of critical importance to the student body (Congressman Steven Rothman, State Senator Loretta Weinberg, former Governor Christine Todd Whitman, County Executive Dennis McNerney, and the Bergen County Freeholders, among others)
