I wish to run for the College Council in this first election. In my position as Budget Director I am in a position to effectively communicate financial information on a timely basis. I offer clarity in the budget issues facing Bergen as well as an objective/impartial point of view on all other issues brought to the attention of the College Council. I consider myself a solid candidate to consider in this upcoming election cycle.

Having worked with Bergen Community College for over eight years, I have been involved with most major technology initiatives throughout that time. I believe strongly in the effective use of technology and hope that my participation in the College Council will help to ensure technology is used effectively to advance Bergen Community College and meet institutional goals.

Jennifer Flynn

I feel that being a part of the College Council will allow me to share my fresh new perspectives and those of my fellow Professional Staff members. I have experienced many facets of college life at BCC having gone from student to staff member. If elected to the Council, I will help to ensure that all of our voices are heard on the important issues that impact the College as a whole. Being a part of the Office of Specialized Services, I am strongly committed to representing my department and the students we serve.
Joe Irvin

I respectfully request to be given the opportunity to serve you as part of the College Council. I have been employed at Bergen Community College for 24 plus years which has allowed me, and continues to allow me, many opportunities to serve all of the College Community including outside groups, students, staff, faculty, and Administrators. I have experienced Bergen as a student, employee, and parent of a student as well as developed relationships with a wide variety of people here that I care deeply about. The opportunity to sit on the College Council is yet another opportunity to serve this community that I have so benefited from.
Johanna Heule

I would like to be elected to the College Council because I want to be a voice. I would not be afraid to address and communicate issues that need to be resolved so that this beautiful campus can thrive and function at its best! I bring experience, passion, and fresh new perspectives to Bergen. I pride in being part of the Bergen family and would to like to help see it truly become a New and Better Day at Bergen.

Kathy Morley

Why vote for me? Being here 18 years and working in different departments, I am knowledgeable about college operations and I have the fortitude and foresight to speak up about important issues. Because I am an agent for positive change, I started the Health & Safety Committee 5 years ago, serve on the Interfaith Committee and am VP of the Professional Staff Union.
Kim Makoe-Brown

With a job that interacts daily with administrators, staff and faculty, I have a unique vantage point of how issues relate at many levels. Serving on the college council affords me the opportunity to share insight and to vote on issues that have major impact to the entire college. As issues are brought to the council, I will have broader understanding of the changes that are to be implemented in scheduling around the campus.
Larry Greenberg

Information technology has become a critical strategic part of how institutions of higher learning do business and accomplish their goals in the twenty-first century. As a lifetime Information Technology professional with specialization in the behavioral science of usability and a practical understanding of human interaction with technology, I believe I can bring to the College Council a practical, grass-roots understanding of the positive application of information technology on a human level that can be a valuable asset as the College grows into the 21st century.
Larry Hlavenka

There is a strong possibility that I am the youngest full-time member of the administrator/professional staff at the College. Through this I would bring a unique perspective to the College Council – one molded by my own college experience, which ended only a few years ago. Organized, analytical and opinionated, I believe my voice is exactly what “A New Day for Bergen” embodies.
Lori McCurley

As a current member of the Interim College Council, I have had the opportunity to learn about my colleagues’ different perspectives and viewpoints on a variety of issues and concerns. I would be honored to continue to serve on this historic governance body. I believe that through communication and understanding of each department’s roles and functions, this institution can better serve our students and the surrounding community. I am also particularly interested in continuing my role as a member of the Community Relations Sub-Committee and would like to help with the planning and preparation in commemoration of Bergen’s 40th anniversary. I feel that my expertise in the field of public relations would serve as an invaluable asset to this momentous College event.
Marie Jardine

I have been employed at BCC for over 15 years and I am looking forward to making “One College, One Community” a reality. People’s thoughts, ideas, concerns, and solutions need to be heard, and if elected to the College Council I will make sure YOUR voice is heard. To help make this happen please take part in this important election and VOTE! Thank you!

Marilyn MacDonall

I am very interested in serving on the College Council for several reasons. For openers, It isn’t every day that you have a wonderful unique opportunity such as this is to serve in a governance capacity that is giving voice to all of the various stakeholders in the College for the first time. Also, as a member of the Professional Staff since 1994, I have been impressed by the standards of excellence, dedication to service, and wide-ranging contributions this membership brings to the College. It would be my privilege to represent the Professional Staff on the College Council.
Rong Wang

A dedicated professional committed to BCC with global vision for moving BCC forward with up-dated technology for education.
Sandra O'Neill

As an employee of the college I am concerned about issues on campus which are important to all of us. I am interested in the growth of the college community and how it impacts students, faculty and staff. Therefore I would like to be one of the many voices of the council.
Sharon Goldstein

Sharon Goldstein, Ph.D. brings over 20 years experience in higher education and a true sense of caring for students, faculty and staff. Overseeing critical areas within the student services division, Sharon can contribute to the Council by identifying information as it relates to enrollment services, health services, career services and counseling/advising services. Sharon is solution driven, has been considered an "optimistic realist" which describes her approach to everyday activities at the College and would like to make a positive difference at Bergen Community College.
Tia-Nikki Ivanko

Part-Time Faculty
Charles LaPalme

I am a successful product of the Community College system and have taught at BCC since 2003. For three semesters I have been a lecturer; the balance, an adjunct. I have also taught at three other NJ Community Colleges, gaining tremendous knowledge regarding student diversity, staff appreciation and college policies. I have recently developed a brand new Course curriculum and have placed all of my classes on WEBCt. I am also the marketing representative for the "Teaneck Prep Grant Program" with Teaneck High School.
George Williams

My name is George Williams, CPA, Esq., and I would like to be a representative on the newly formed College Council. I have been an adjunct at BCC since Fall 2006. As a leader in my profession and the outside business community, I feel I can be a valuable asset to the council providing outside perspectives and viewpoints of the entire college community. This is particularly important as Bergen Community College has grown tremendously and adjuncts now represent a growing population of instruction given at the college. It's a great place to teach and I would love to give back to make the college even more successful that it already is.
Joseph Sommers

I have been a Science educator for 40 years, and, have been teaching Biology at BCC since September, 1983.
I love this college! It would be an honor and privilege to share my wisdom and knowledge (yes, I have gleaned some over all these years) with the college community as a member of our College council.
Mark Baisley
Since I have been teaching here at BCC I have been interested in being more involved in the decision making process. I am aware that there are only two council members representing the adjunct faculty. Though my experience in serving in this capacity is minimal, I believe I can make a positive contribution as a member of the College Council.
Steve Freides

I was a full-time member of the faculty at the Mannes College in New York City during the period of its merger with the New School. I served on several committees related to the merger and participated in weekly faculty meetings. I have been an Adjunct in Music at BCC since 2003 and have served on the Interim College Council. The role of adjuncts at BCC requires more attention than has been given it to date. In my opinion, certain departments have too many part-time faculty and not enough full-time lines while others need more adjuncts in order to expand course offerings in both quantity and scope. |
William Huisking

After having spent almost 30 years as a CEO of an international manufacturing company, I retired and began teaching at BCC several years ago. Therefore I have a good feel for the students, programs, and culture of the college. In addition to this experience, I have been a Director on charitable organizations, trade organizations, and Municipal Authorities. Drawing from this broad experience, I believe I am in an excellent position to contribute to the council as it navigates the many challenges facing the college during these most difficult times.

Technical and Professional Assistants
Fran Ruff

The College Council represents an opportunity for the BCC Community to come together. I say that is a great beginning. If we can exchange ideas and learn from one another, I say that is progress. If those ideas can be implemented, I would say that is success. It will be my goal as a member of the College Council to ensure success.
Stuart Rosengarten

It’s my desire in seeking a Council Seat to be able to represent my fellow Technical and Professional Assistant colleagues. I have had the distinct pleasure of serving the college for the past 15 years as a member of the Office of Information Technology. I look forward to bring my skills and experience to the College Council and to represent the views of my fellow TA/PA workers.

Full-time Faculty
Barbara Walcott

I believe the non-teaching faculty should be represented on the College Council, and that my work in the Library with students, staff and the teaching faculty, makes me a good candidate. My experience serving on the President’s Advisory Committee convinced me that it was neither representative nor effective. If elected to the College Council, I will work to ensure that it really does represent different groups on campus and communicates their concerns to the President in a timely manner.
Bill Madden

If I am able to serve, I look forward to the opportunity to participate in the work of a body that is so broadly representative of the entire college community. Reading over recent minutes, I see that one role of the Council will be to serve as 'a conduit of college constituencies to the college administration; to make recommendations to the College President and have a voice in the college policies and procedures.' It is wholesome, in any organization, to have an effective feedback loop and I would work very hard to ensure the integrity and vitality of such a mechanism at the school.
Bill Morales
If elected, I would be able to look at issues from a variety of views. I am presently a teaching faculty member. In my thirty years plus in community colleges here and elsewhere I have worked as: an ESL/Basic Skills Instructor at an urban campus; Assistant to off campus director; admissions counselor (regular and foreign admission). I listen, more than speak.
Brant Chapman

I would like to continue the work that I began as interim chair of the Planning and Assessment subcommittee. I ask for your support, and I look forward to serving as your representative.
Brian Cordell

I feel it is important that the faculty have a voice in any college council or governance committee on campus. My interest in serving on the college council is to make sure that our interests as faculty continue to be served.
Carrie Polnyj

As a faculty representative on the College Council my intention is to work with other members of the college community in addressing current and future needs of the college. The College Council provides us with a unique opportunity, giving a voice via representation to one and all. I hope that my colleagues will allow give me the honor of representing the voice of the faculty on the College Council. |
Cristina Haedo

My life circumstance has given me the unique opportunity to experience and understand key elements in the world cultures of the east and west, north and south. Because of my capacity to identify with many ethnicities, I have been at the forefront of programs in communication, community outreach, and diversity, both within the college and in the greater academic community. The qualities I have consistently demonstrated of vision, leadership, and effectiveness are those that will bring to the College Council while working along side like-minded individuals.
Florence McGovern

I have served on the faculty for 25 years and believe that I have a good understanding of the college. Faculty input has not always been solicited on decisions that impacted us and where we could have provided a unique insight. I would welcome the opportunity to represent the viewpoints of this faculty on issues of college-wide importance. |
Francis Schmidt

Heat and chalk are the only things the administration should be supplying to the school. Faculty must be the decision makers in everything else. The votes I make will be with the idea of supporting faculty above all, as we teach the students that are at the core of what BCC does so well. |
Frank Ramdayal

I will work to identify the substantive elements of a strategic plan that will provide direction and oversight for establishing the criteria for and evaluation of programs that will enable the success of Bergen educators, and students in meeting the objectives of higher education.
Fred Golub

Serving on the College Council is an opportunity for me to participate in this new governance initiative. As a forty year member of the faculty, I have served on most of the governance efforts afforded to us by Bergen Community College. My affection for Bergen Community College cannot be measured. I still enjoy coming to work and look forward to be elected a new member of the College
Council.
Ifeoma Uzoka
I can use my experience in education and interaction with both the student body and the administrative staff here at BCC to identify and communicate each group’s needs. My understanding of both the student's needs and of the processes of the administrative offices can allow me to serve as a liaison to the students and the administration, working to achieve goals and complete projects that are devised between the groups. As a college council member, I will make contributions to address the needs of the college-wide community that are aligned with college's mission statement.
Joan Tscherne
I am interested in learning about the needs and concerns of faculty and staff from other areas of the College. I see the College Council as an opportunity to do that as well as an opportunity to acquaint the College community with my area, physical sciences. By serving on the College Council I hope to work with my colleagues from different sectors of the College toward making BCC a better place to work and learn
John Georgiades

As a faculty member of the Bergen Community College community for thirty-eight plus years, I have participated in most of the available avenues for governance. This new initiative, The College Council, is presenting to us a challenging and unique opportunity to further serve BCC. I believe the knowledge and experience that I have gained throughout my tenure at BCC, which includes but is not limited to, serving on numerous college-wide and departmental/divisional committees and steering committee for college accreditation, college-wide promotion committee, BCC Adult Learning Center Advisory Council has prepared me well to be an active and contributing member to our new effort. Therefore, my election to the College Council along with my longevity and experience, allows me to further serve BCC in a most positive and productive way.
Magali Jerez
I believe that my expertise in Global Studies, World Languages and Administration, qualifies me to be of value to the College Council.
Paul Eckstein

I believe that the process of democratic decision-making requires a council representative of all constituencies that make up the BCC community. There are many areas of concern not covered by matters of contract or law that we can all be involved in making decisions about, through a thoroughly transparent process. As we confront both the dangers and the opportunities for BCC in the coming years, we should remember that students are our primary concern and that we all share a responsibility for making decisions about matters that affect both the quality of education and the quality of life here at BCC.
Richard Comerford

I'm a 35-year employee at Bergen Community College and a senior member of the Social Science faculty. Over the years I have been involved with my colleagues in an array of efforts dedicated to making BCC an institution of academic and employment excellence, providing unparalleled educational opportunities to our students and to the larger community of Bergen County and beyond on the one hand, and on the other, securing a fair, secure, progressive and supportive place of employment for all who work here. As one of the many original appointed members of the College Council and its Steering Committee, and as the chair of the Council's Facilities and Finance Subcommittee, I am seeking election to the Council because I would like to be a participant in the shared governance it provides in support of the College's unceasing pursuit of excellence in this new century.
Robert Saldarini

I have been a member of the BCC faculty for 28-years, spanning the ranks from adjunct, lecturer and onto full professor. In addition to my instruction, I served in administrative capacities and remain actively
involved in College's Student Life. Currently, I represent the Business faculty as their Academic Department Chair. As a member of the Council. I believe my years and contributions within the Bergen culture would assist me in representing our community well.
Sidney Birnback

I have been a professor at BCC for forty years. I have participated in 4 middle states evaluations. I have been a member of the Senate for over 35 years. I have been an active member , at one time or another, of every major standing college Committee,(curriculum, academic standing, general education, etc.). I hope and believe I will be able to add some experience and continuity to the council’s future endeavors.
Susan Klarreich

The Council will be an important part of establishing policies that will take this College in new directions in challenging times and I believe that I can contribute to the dialogue. My varied teaching experience, which includes developmental courses (at another college), and my work as a Club Advisor have given me a broad view of the college community. My thirty-four years of teaching at BCC enable me to have a long range view of the college and of its growth and development. |
Tiziana Quatrone
I’m glad to be part of this college. I’d like to be part of the College Council and be the voice of the World language Department. I hope that working together, we can make this college a source of inspiration for all our students, and a happy place for all of us.

Support Staff
Abigail Santiago

My name is Abigail Santiago and I work in the Bursar’s Office. I have being with the college as a full time employee for 7 years and 3 years as part time. I believe I will be a benefit to Council because I come with experience of four major department that student have to deal with when they first step into the college experience life. I have worked in Admission/Registration and Bursar and working closely with Financial Aid and I believe I could be a great team player.
Al Legge
I have been employed at Bergen Community College for over 15 years, presently I am the President of the Support Staff Association (NJEA). Negotiating our last three (3) contracts and have successfully served on many Bergen Community College committees. I possess a vast working knowledge of Bergen Community College and would be a great asset to the college council.
Barbara Bliss

As a BCC employee for over ten years, I would like an opportunity to participate and contribute to the newly-organized College Council. I see this as a viable vehicle to greatly improve our already-good-but-not-perfect institution. My particular interest would be the Communication Committee inasmuch as I personally see and experience mis/non/and other variations of “communication” on campus as the cause of unnecessary stress, anxiety and a waste of time and energy – it would be great to improve that!
Carol Gancher

I think the opportunity to have an open dialog college wide would have an extremely positive effect. There are many colleagues with bright and innovative ideas with no forum. Being able to contribute to this positive Council would be an exciting venture.
Carolyn Lyons

I have begun my 27th year as a support staff member during which time I have experienced the college’s growth in population and as well as the campus itself. My knowledge of college policies and procedures is an asset I would like to share. The chance to contribute my thoughts and ideas with my peers is a wonderful opportunity to enhance the college now and in the future.
Cathy Krostek

The first elected members of the College Council will be working on important issues such as communication, working conditions (health, safety, environment), customer service, policies and procedures, etc. I have experienced problems in some of these areas from different perspectives; first as a student, and now as an employee. I am a team player, and can be counted on to complete assigned tasks. In addition, I have worked for years on environmental issues, yet despite the hard work of many people, environmental issues continue to need improvement. Since we are now teaching courses for "green" collar job markets, I think we should practice what we teach.
Eunice Dominguez
I feel I should be elected to the Council for the following reasons… I believe I am very student-needs oriented which I feel would be an asset to the committee. I have been working at Bergen for 20+ years in various departments and feel I can positively contribute and convey the various concerns and ideas the support staff population may have. I am very interested in the mission and vision of the College Council and would really enjoy collaborating with my colleagues in this endeavor. Because I believe in the purpose of the College Council I would really welcome the opportunity to represent the Support Staff.
Fran Buscher
I have been employed by the college for fifteen years as a Public Safety Officer. My position is to ensure the safety and well being of staff, students and visitors to the college. I feel that my contact with this wide variety of people has given me insight into what priorities need to be addressed by the College Council.
Gerri Farrell

The BCC College Council is an incredible opportunity to have all of our voices heard. Your opinion is important and my goal is to listen and work hard on your behalf. Let's have open communications and present a unified voice to our students and our community.
Gloria Cevallos Fuentes

I have 15 years of service and I am presently working at the Office of Community and Cultural Affairs under the supervision of Prof. Constance Lee. Bergen Community College has always been not only my place of employment, but a place where I have the opportunity to touch someone’s life every day. I had the opportunity to attend All College Day on Friday, March 13 and realized that ...here we have not only a chance to contribute to council activities and continue to promote, provide and improve our services to our main constituency ….our students …but also, to play a part in the progress of Bergen Community College as an employee.
Janet Pagan

After working at Bergen Community College for over 21 years, I feel that I would have much to contribute to the College Council. During this time, I’ve obtained my Associates degree from Bergen while making great friends. If needed, I would go above and beyond when it comes to representing the Support Staff at the College Council.
Joanne Fantacone

I feel I should be elected because of my many years at the College and all the changes I’ve seen made and those that still need to be made. I will work very hard for you to help bring those changes to the College. As many of you know, you can come to me with your concerns and I will listen and try to help.
Mickey Dickenson

My name is Mickey Dickenson. I began working at Bergen Community College in October 1981. My goal in participating on the college council is to join Culture and Communication subcommittee. If elected, I will work toward improving communication and information flow to all members of the college community.
Susan Williams
As a support staff nominee and an employee of BCC I have been part of the many changes in our policies and procedures. When I started at BCC one thing was very apparent to me that the importance of having a college council was for Support Staff members. Now I would like to be a part of the process. I am a team player with positive viewpoints and would like to be part of the new College Council.
Vincent Conti

I work as a Public Safety Officer for the College. I am currently serving on the Interim Council and would like to be elected to a full term. I would like to be elected so that I can continue to work hard for the college community and see many of the initiatives started with the Interim council completed. Thank you for your support.
