September 2015

  • Core, Data, and Communications Teams met
  • Formed partnerships between Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) and Student Government Association (SGA)
  • Conducted ATD Day of Professional Development Appreciative Inquiry interviews and data analysis – 567 total students, faculty, and staff participated in the interview process!

August 2015

  • Met with Data and Communications Team Leaders
  • Began weekly Core Team Leader Meetings (two meetings were held this month)
  • Started planning for campus-wide Day of Professional Development and decided to use an Appreciative Inquiry process

July 2015

  • Director of Achieving the Dream, Jaymee Griffin, visited Passaic County Community College (ATD Leader College) to learn about their ATD experience
  • Core Team met for the first time and selected Core, Data, and Communications Team Members
  • Four Core Team members attended the first NJ Data Summit

June 2015

  • Sent first official e-mail newsletter to campus about Achieving the Dream
  • A Bergen team attended the Achieving the Dream Kickoff in Cincinatti, Ohio, including nine faculty, staff, and administrators.

May 2015

  • Bergen hired full-time Director of Achieving the Dream, Jaymee Griffin.

April 2015

  • At the College’s Day of Professional Development on April 7th, Professor Nancy Silvestro and Dean Bill Morrison, employees at Passaic Community College, which is an ATD Leader College, presented to the BCC Faculty and Staff on their college’s experience with Achieving the Dream. They were joined by Dr. Martha Ellis who will be serving at BCC’s Achieving the Dream Leadership Coach.
  • On April 28th, over 50 employees attended a forum on Achieving the Dream hosted by Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. William Mullaney. During the forum, Dr. Mullaney presented additional information about ATD, including the network’s approaches and areas of focus. Attendees participated in an interactive “clicker” session organized around questions in the ATD Readiness Assessment.  Here is Dr. Mullaney’s PowerPoint presentation.

March 2015

  • On March 3rd, the Bergen Community College Board of Trustees approved the full-time position of Director for Achieving the Dream, signaling their support of the college’s commitment to ATD.

“The Director of Achieving the Dream is responsible for coordinating the planning, implementation and assessment of college-wide programs and initiatives that enhance student success and is directly responsible for overseeing the college’s Achieving the Dream initiative.” (from the official Job Description)

February 2015

  • Bergen sent a team of nine attendees to the DREAM 2015 Conference in Baltimore, MD.
  • Attendees included the following: President Kaye Walter, Vice President William Mullaney, Vice President Naydeen Gonzales-De Jesus, Dean Michael DiBartolomeo, Dean Carmen Martinez-Lopez, Professor Robert Fusco, Professor Amy Baldassare, Dean Jill Rivera and Director of Advisement, Dianna O’Connor.

January 2015

Bergen was officially accepted into the Achieving the Dream National Reform network.
