Gordon Scott

Gordon Scott has taught at Bergen since 2002, most notably teaching Music Appreciation as well as Music History and brass instruction. Much of Gordon’s music career has been in church music, serving as Director of Music for several New Jersey churches including Trinity Free Church in Teaneck, the Montvale Evangelical Free Church, and the First Baptist Church in Hackensack. Currently Gordon serves as music director at The First Baptist Church in the City of New York directing the Worship Choir, leading the congregational worship, and scheduling and directing all holiday concert presentations for choir and orchestra. Gordon has directed Messiah, Seven Last Words by DuBois, St. Matthew Passion, and St Saen’s Christmas Oratorio.

Gordon received his Bachelor of Music Education degree at Nyack College where he studied tuba with Herbert Wekselblatt of the Metropolitan Opera and orchestral conducting with Dr. Lee Olsen, a student of Toscanini. He earned his Master of Arts in Performance (tuba) from Montclair State College and taught music in the Congers, NY school system and at the Hackensack Christian Schools in New Jersey.
