Meryl Sole

Meryl Sole, Ed. D joined the faculty at Bergen Community College as Assistant Professor of Music in Fall 2017 and is excited to be teaching courses in music theory, musicianship and music education. In addition to her teaching duties, she is thrilled to be a co-advisor to the Bergen BPM music club as well as an active collaborator in Bergen’s musical performances (most recently the Bergen Five-O concert). Meryl holds her Doctorate in Music & Music Education from Teachers College, Columbia University as well as a Masters in Brass Performance from Boston University and a Bachelors in Music Theory and Music History from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to her time here at Bergen, Meryl was a member of the music faculty at the University of New Haven, Adelphi University and SUNY Empire State College. Meryl’s research focuses on early childhood music where she explores musical parenting and musical development through toddlers’ spontaneous “crib songs.” She also studies creative approaches in music theory pedagogy. Meryl’s research has been published in peer-reviewed journals and she has presented her work at numerous national and international conferences. As a performer, Meryl has freelanced as a French horn player with local NY orchestras.
