Guidelines for Proposals for Curated Exhibitions
Gallery Bergen Submission Policy – Exhibition proposal

Bergen Community College has an ongoing open call for exhibition proposals. Please note that we do not accept original works of art or models, nor can we be responsible for any of these materials that are sent to us. Materials will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and will be evaluated by the Gallery Committee within 3-6 months of receipt.  Please do not call the gallery to follow up on your submission.You will be notified of your acceptance or non-acceptance within 3 months of their submission receipt date.  Should the curatorial staff determine that the submission is appropriate to our program we will contact you.  Please include a SASE to ensure the return of materials.

Submissions may be made in either digital or hard copy form in the formats suggested below. Regardless of format, no more than 10 images should be submitted.

Institutional Support

Gallery Bergen will:
• Produce and distribute press-releases and exhibition announcements about the project
• Coordinate and assist with press appearances and interviews
• Publicize the project on the gallery and college’s web sites
• Publicize and coordinate a public lecture by the curator/participating artists (optional)
• Host a public reception for the curator and artists (optional)

Digital Submissions

Submissions must be made in digital form, submitted to  info.gallery@bergen.edu
No more than 10 images should be submitted.

Digital Submissions should include:

  • Cover letter
  • Exhibition proposal explaining rationale, relevance to Bergen Community College, and exhibition availability
  • CV
  • Checklist of images, with title, measurements, medium and date of completion for each object
  • Outline of required budget, detailing all anticipated expenses
  • No more than 10 digital images
  • Attached images must be jpgs and marked with the artist’s last name and title
  • Files should not exceed a total of 2MBs.

Please do not submit any Power Points or video, unless it is essential to the work(s). If you are a video artist only 10 minutes of video will be watched.

Please note that on these proposals we do not accept original works of art or models, nor can we be responsible for any of these materials that are sent to us. Materials will be reviewed on a rolling basis, and will be evaluated by the Gallery Committee within 3-6 months of receipt. Please do not call the gallery to follow up on your submission. Artists will be notified of their acceptance or non-acceptance within 3 months of their submission receipt date. Should the curatorial staff determine that the submission is appropriate to our program we will contact you for further discussion.  Please include a SASE to ensure the return of materials.

Receptions/Installation/Storage
There is no storage available for work.
All receptions must take place on a Tuesday, or Thursday.
The gallery is only accessible by stairs and a standard size elevator. Consider the scale of the work, when applying as the gallery does not have a freight elevator.

Eligibility
Any faculty member, staff, student, alumnus, sponsored group, department or outside persons of Bergen Community College may submit a proposal to be considered.

Institutional Support

• Publicize and coordinate a public lecture by the selected artist
• Host a public reception for the artist and project (optional)

This is not, however, a collaborative project between the artist(s) and the gallery. The artist(s) is solely responsible for completing all creative and technical aspects of their project. The gallery can only provide the support and benefits detailed above.

Digital Submissions
Should be on a CD or DVD with the following:

  1. Cover letter
  2. Biography
  3. Artist Statement
  4. A complete resume citing education and exhibition history
  5. Checklist of images, with title, measurements, medium and date of completion for each object
  6.  A budget detailing travel costs, material costs, any special equipment necessary (this includes all audio/video/computer/projection equipment needed), any contracted services necessary, and other expenses over $250 (printed, limit to one page)
  7. No more than 10 images

Images must be jpgs and marked with the artist’s last name and title
Files should not exceed a total of 2MBs
