International Week of the Deaf Events
- Monday September 23rd: International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) Calvin Young from SEEK THE WORLD 11:00 am – 12:00 pm in room C-211 Calvin Young is an International Deaf Traveler who will be sharing his experiences and expertise with the community. In Calvin’s own words “Traveling is the best thing you can do for yourself.” Calvin’s ultimate goal is to show the Deaf community that solo travel can be safe, easy and a lot of fun. He also aims to empower and inspire Deaf people showing that they can do anything they want through his travels.

Bergen Community College alumnus, Mariagrazia Buttitta, is an author, a motivational speaker, and a mental health & disability advocate who recently graduated with her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from The College of New Jersey. A native Sicilian-Italian speaker, Buttitta authored Now I SEE: How I Battled Blindness, Mental Illness, an Espresso Habit and Lived to Tell the Tale and has been featured in the Huffington Post. She speaks to college students and organizations about her blindness and her long-term battle with depression and anxiety.
