DESCRIPTION:Black Women’s Maternal Health Summit\nSaturday\, March 4\, 2023\n8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.\nContinental Breakfast\nPresident’s Remarks before the first panel \nThe Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that young Black women die in childbirth at rates 2-3 times higher than white women\, and the number is even more alarming for middle aged Black women who die in childbirth at rates 4-5 times higher than other women. New Jersey scores 47 among the 50 states. Those deaths are preventable. \nAs a leading educational institution and community partner in northern New Jersey\, Bergen Community College will sponsor a Black Women’s Maternal Health Summit to address the issue of maternal mortality among Black women\, to inform and educate the public of ways to improve the overall health of Black mothers and babies in our area. \nThe event\, led by doctors\, nurses\, doulas and other health professionals from the area hospitals\, features programs on prenatal health\, labor and delivery\, and mental health. Information about where to find needed care and services will be available to expectant mothers. Complimentary gifts for expectant mothers will be available through a baby basket drawing.
