SUMMARY:Documentary Film: Navalny
DESCRIPTION:Streaming of NAVALNY Winner of the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature and the Sundance Film Festival Favorite Award \nDate: October 16- October 28 \nTo stream\, click here \nNAVALNY takes viewers inside the careful investigation into the shocking and brazen assassination attempt against Russian opposition leader Alexey Navalny\, and who was behind it. Through his years-long campaign against corruption among Russia’s elites\, Navalny has developed powerful enemies. His publicized revelations\, and calls for democratic reforms\, have enraged Vladimir Putin\, who refuses to even say his name in public. In August 2020\, Navalny was secretly poisoned with a military-grade chemical nerve agent in an elaborate attempt on his life. Despite denials from the Russian government\, the poison was later linked to the Kremlin through investigations by international news organizations\, including Bellingcat and CNN. \nFor more information on the film\, watch the trailer.

SUMMARY:Bergenstages presents The Laramie Project
DESCRIPTION:The Laramie Project\nBy Moisés Kaufman\nDirected by Dr. Leigh Jonaitis\nOct. 27\, 28\, Nov. 2\, 3 & 4\, 2023 7:30 PM\nOct. 28 & Nov. 4\, 2023 at 2:00 PM\nEnder Hall Lab Theatre \nTwenty five years ago in October 1998\, a twenty-one-year-old student at the University of Wyoming was kidnapped\, severely beaten\, and left tied to a fence in the middle of the prairie outside Laramie\, Wyoming. His bloody\, bruised\, and battered body was not discovered until the next day\, and he died several days later in an area hospital. His name was Matthew Shepard\, and he was the victim of this assault because he was gay. Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie over the course of a year and a half\, in the aftermath of the beating and during the trial of the two young men accused of killing Shepard. They conducted more than 200 interviews with the people of the town. The Laramie Project is a breathtaking collage that explores the depths to which humanity can sink and the heights of compassion of which we are capable.
