To view Turner’s writings\, video\, and the NEH program\, “Warriors on Writing\,” that featured Turner\, please visit literaryartsseries.org.  \nBrian Turner is the author of two poetry collections\, Here\, Bullet\, which won the Beatrice Hawley Award\, the New York Times Editor’s Choice selection and the 2005 Beatrice Hawley award and Phantom Noise\, which was shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize in Poetry. He is also the author of a memoir\, My Life in a Foreign Country\, which made Powell’s Best Nonfiction list in 2014. He was a Guggenheim fellow in 2016. Prior to that\, he was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina in 1999-2000 with the 10th Mountain Division. In his poetry and prose\, Turner conveys both elegant and devastating portraits of what it means to be a soldier and a human being. In addition to his poetry and memoir\, he is the editor of the anthology\, The Kiss (2018)\, a diverse anthology of essays\, stories\, poems\, and graphic memoirs. \nSponsored by the Literary Arts Series. DESCRIPTION:BCC Women’s History Month welcomes Anuradha Bhagwati\, author of Unbecoming: A Memoir of Disobedience\, as keynote speaker. A Marine Corps veteran and bisexual woman of color\, Bhagwati writes with frankness and clarity about bucking the demands of strict Indian parents\, and confronting misogyny and racism in the military. She is the founder of Service Women’s Action Network\, (SWAN) which brings national attention to sexual violence in the military and helped repeal the ban on women in combat.
