Summer Enrichment Programs are a great way to get a jump start your academic success!
1. Educational Opportunity Fund Summer Program
For students who take the Accuplacer test and place into developmental math and/or English. In the summer program, students are placed in Reading, Writing and Math classes based upon their score on the Accuplacer Test. At the end of the summer students are retested again and if they score high enough, they will be placed into a higher level of Math and/or English class in the fall. This program gives students the chance to take the test for a second time to improve your score; saving them from taking a semester of developmental English and Math. Students receive a stipend for transportation and lunch. Following the EOF Summer Program, students will continue to receive support services throughout their academic career at Bergen Community College. Financial eligibility requirements apply.
Students who attend the EOF Summer Program receive many benefits including:
- Enrichment classes in reading, writing and math
- The opportunity to advance or test out of basic skills classes in these subjects
- FREE in-class tutoring in these subjects
- The opportunity to learn the campus and meet BCC faculty and administration
- Participate in leadership activities and workshops
2. Summer Intensive Program
The Summer Intensive Program is Bergen Community College’s college-bridge program designed to prepare high school graduates for the rigors of college-level work with specific focus on building math and writing competencies. In addition to improving academic skills, the program’s curriculum also focuses on career and professional growth, leadership development, and service-learning. What makes the Summer Intensive Program unique is its strengths-based curriculum that is rooted in a positive psychology framework. The strengths-based curriculum embodies a student-centered form of education with the primary goal of transforming students into confident, efficacious, lifelong learners whose education and career pursuit is infused with a sense of purpose. This newly integrated strengths-based curriculum will begin over the summer and extend into the student’s first year of college forming the basis of the student’s first-year experience.

3. Accuplacer Preparation (College Entrance Exam)
Prior to registering for courses Bergen Community College administers the Accuplacer examination to determine a student’s level in English, mathematics, and elementary algebra. The Accuplacer examination is a computer delivered exam with four untimed multiple choice sections comprised of Reading Comprehension, Sentence Skills, Arithmetic, Elementary Algebra, and a timed written essay.
The results of this test determine a student’s required entry level courses in both English and mathematics.
