Paramus, NJ- Bergen Bulldogs had a wonderful showing at the 2023 Wrestling North Atlantic District/Region XIX Tournament, hosted by Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania.  The team qualified six wrestlers to compete at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District/Region XIX Tournaments.  Those wrestlers who qualified were Sophomore Jineer Contraras (125 lbs.), Freshman Jeffery Molina (133 lbs.), Freshman Antonio Spina (149 lbs.), Freshman Dylan Toro (157 lbs.), Freshman Jack Farinaro (184 lbs.), and Freshman Matthews Marin (197 lbs.).

As a result from Saturday’s tournament, the Bulldogs of Bergen finished in third place in the region and third place in the District and have qualified four wrestlers to complete in the 2023 NJCAA Wrestling Tournament on May 3-4, 2023 at the Mid-Atlantic Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.  On the men’s team, two ladies will get an automatic bid to the 2023 NJCAA Women’s Wrestling Invitational on May 3-4, 2023 at the Mid-Atlantic Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Jack Farinaro (184 lbs.) –  Finished in 1st place (Qualified for Nationals)
Jeffery Molina (133 lbs.) – Finished in 3rd place (Qualified for Nationals)
Dylan Toro (157 lbs.)- Finished in 4th place (Qualified for Nationals)
Matthews Marin (197 lbs.)-  Finished in 5th place (Qualified for Nationals)
Natalia Morales (130 lbs.) –  (Qualified for Women’s National Invitational)
Soraya Safforld (116 lbs.) – (Qualified for Women’s National Invitational)
After the matches were complete, the Bergen Bulldogs finished in third place in the North Atlantic District and Region XIX Tournament.  The North Atlantic District all announced that Jack Farinaro (184 lbs.) earned 2023 NJCAA North Atlantic District Most Outstanding Wrestler of the Year. Congratulations to Farinaro for being the first wrestler in Bergen’s history to receive this accolade.  Go Bulldogs!!!

 

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst.
