Our Mission

The mission of the engineering science department at Bergen Community College is to train and develop students in engineering to prepare them for more advanced content in specialized fields such as mechanical, electrical, biomedical, chemical, and civil engineering.

Engineering Science is designed for students who enjoy applying their knowledge to the analysis, design, and construction of physical devices. Engineering disciplines draw on the concepts of thermodynamics, fluid flow, stress and strain, electricity and magnetism, mathematics and software modeling, and complex forces. Students who obtain an A.S. in Engineering Science will be prepared to continue at a four-year college for more advanced content in specialized fields such as mechanical, electrical, biomedical, chemical, and civil engineering.

Career Paths

The Associate of Science degree (A.S.)- Engineering Science is designed to provide students with the coursework needed to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a bachelor’s degree in engineering. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a pathway to careers as a mechanical engineer, electrical engineer, biomedical engineer, chemical engineer, and civil engineer. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with Bergen Community College faculty and Career Services as they begin to explore career options.

Transfer Opportunities

Students pursuing the Associate of Science degree (A.S.)- Engineering Science can transfer into majors, such as engineering including mechanical, electrical, biomedical, chemical, and civil. Students are encouraged to work closely with Bergen Community College faculty and Advising Transfer Services. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution in NJ can explore the “Transfer Programs” feature on NJ Transfer https://njtransfer.org.
