Professional Tutor in the Cerullo Learning Assistance Center
Bergen alumnus and professional tutor for the Cerullo Learning Assistance Center, Ymer Dinoshi, A.S. ’20, is an example of a dedicated tutoring hero. On February 22, 2021, Dinoshi experienced a morning power outage due to downed power lines at his residence. As a current student at NJIT pursuing electrical engineering, he even missed his own class at NJIT because of the power outage. He had 4 Bergen tutoring appointments scheduled from 2-6 pm where his 2 pm and 3 pm students wanted to review for their exams. After notifying his immediate supervisor, Madhvi Shah, that his power still had not returned, Dinoshi tried to find an alternative solution so he could still tutor his students. After searching his house, Dinoshi found a cable long enough that he could connect to his car to power his laptop. With his creative ingenuity, he was able to tutor all of his appointments without them missing a second of assistance. His power returned by the time he started with his 4 pm student.
Dinoshi’s goal is to eventually become a professor one day after working in the engineering field designing and maintaining power systems. “When I became a tutor at Bergen, I discovered my passion for teaching and I realized that I want this passion to be my life one day,” said Dinoshi. With humility, Dinoshi even added, “There are many tutors who are dedicated to the students at the CLAC. I hope they can get the same recognition as me.”
Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
