The Sidney Silverman Library is committed to providing a quiet, welcoming, respectful atmosphere conducive to study and research in an environment that is comfortable, clean, and safe for both library users and staff.

The conduct of any individual using the Library is governed by all College policies, including the Code of Student Conduct, which can be viewed here:  Student Code of Conduct.

Users who do not adhere to conduct guidelines outlined in College or Library policies may be asked to leave and may be subject to College disciplinary action. Please note:

E-Cigarettes – In accordance with New Jersey’s Smoke Free Air Act and BCC policy, electronic cigarettes and vaping are not allowed in the Library or anywhere on campus.

Food and drink — In order to protect the library’s collection, equipment, furniture and to provide a clean and healthy environment for all our patrons, food is not permitted in the library. Drinks in covered containers are allowed. No canned beverages, paper/plastic cups, or open containers are permitted. Users violating the food and drink policy will be asked to dispose of food or drink or can relocate to the cafeteria or student center to finish eating or drinking.

Foods and uncovered drinks are easily spilled on books, furniture, and equipment, causing damage and leaving materials unavailable for other users. Particles of food left behind on books, furniture, or floors attract rodents, cockroaches, silverfish and other unwanted pests. Users are expected to keep all study areas neat and clean and dispose of trash and recycling appropriately. If you observe a spill, please notify a staff member right away.

Thank you for helping to preserve your resources.

Noise and Other Disruptive Behavior – The Library is often the only quiet study space available to our users so we ask that everyone be considerate and refrain from talking loudly, making noise, or engaging in disruptive behavior. If you need to view a video or anything with audio, please bring your own headphones and please keep the volume level low.  If your audio or conversations are loud enough to be heard by others nearby, then the volume is too loud.  If you are disturbing others by talking on your mobile phone, you will be asked to talk outside the library. Silent study, quiet study, and group study areas are available for individual or collaborative work.

Children on Campus

“…Students who bring small children to campus may not leave them unattended at any time, especially in the Student Center, Library and lounge areas….”

Unattended children left in the Library will be placed in the custody of BCC Public Safety until a parent or responsible adult can be located.
