PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College Executive Assistant to the President Ursula Parrish Daniels, Ed.D., who has served the institution for 40 years, added another honor to her mantle this month.
Parrish Daniels, of Hackensack, earned one of four “2016 women of achievement” awards from the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey during an April 14 evening banquet in Woodland Park. The award recognizes individuals who serve as role models for young women in five counties: Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and Warren.
“Dr. Daniels has made an indelible impact on the College, the county and in the lives of thousands of young people,” Bergen President B. Kaye Walter, Ph.D., said. “Awards like this one recognize her dedication and commitment to education in our community.”
Parrish Daniels began her tenure at Bergen in 1976 as an education and psychology professor. Later, she would found the College’s child development center, which still provides high-quality early childhood education programs today. Parrish Daniels also served as the co-director for the U.S. Department of Education’s “Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs” (GEAR-UP) grant from 1999-2006. Recently, she helped spearhead the College’s partnership with the Englewood Public School District and the highly successful “Summer Intensive” bridge program for high school students planning to attend Bergen.
Among Parrish Daniels’ community affiliations and advocacy, she has served on the boards of the Bergen/Passaic chapter of the Coalition of 100 Black Women Inc., the Urban League for Bergen County and the Center for Food Action, and she remains a member of Delta Sigma Theta and the New York Girl Friends Inc.
Parrish Daniels earned a B.A. from Ohio Wesleyan University, an M.A. from Hunter College, The City University of New York and an Ed.D. from New York University.
