How to prepare for your tutoring session:

  • Review course material before your tutoring session. Tutors can help you understand what you’re learning in class, but not teach.
  • Be on time for your session, and expect the same from your tutor.
  • Bring relevant materials (notes, handouts, texts, syllabus, assignment guidelines, etc.) to make the most of your session.
  • Be ready to work! Tutors can’t do your homework but they can review your work, explain concepts, model sample problems, help brainstorm ideas, and assist with exam prep—but you’re expected to attempt assignments beforehand and come with questions.
  • Expect to make mistakes. Struggling and making mistakes are natural parts of learning. Tutoring sessions are a safe space to ask questions, make errors, and explore new ideas so you can grow and become a stronger independent learner.
