Officials from Saint Peter’s University and Bergen Community College, including Saint Peter’s President Eugene J. Cornacchia, Ph.D., and Bergen Executive Assistant to the President Ursula Parrish Daniels, Ed.D., met in Paramus July 6 to sign transfer agreements.
PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College and Saint Peter’s University (Jersey City) have entered into a series of agreements designed to enhance transfer pathways for students between the institutions. Officials signed the agreements at Bergen’s main campus July 6.
“Transfer partnerships remain critically important to community college students, as they facilitate pathways after graduation,” Bergen President B. Kaye Walter, Ph.D., said. “The College will continue to seek collaborative efforts with institutions across the country to streamline the path to college degrees for our students.”
The first agreement – a reverse transfer articulation – will provide a pathway to an associate degree for students who transferred before graduating. Students who transferred from Bergen with 30 or more credits, have earned 15 credits at Saint Peter’s and remain in good academic standing at both institutions can participate in the free program. For eligible students, classes taken at Saint Peter’s will satisfy the requirements of their Bergen associate degree program, enabling them to earn an associate degree while concurrently progressing toward a bachelor’s degree at the four-year institution.
A second agreement establishes a dual enrollment transfer partnership that will grant Bergen graduates who meet Saint Peters’ admissions requirements with junior-year status at the four-year institution. Eligible programs include Saint Peters’ bachelor’s degrees in business administration, criminal justice and psychology.
The final agreement will see Saint Peter’s offer bachelor’s degree program courses in management, marketing and healthcare concentrations in classrooms located at Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst (1280 Wall Street West). Classes will take place at night in eight-week sessions. Bergen students will have first priority for registration in the courses. Saint Peter’s representatives will provide on-site advising and registration prior to each trimester.
Bergen maintains dozens of articulation agreements with four-year institutions such as New York University, Johnson & Wales and many in-state universities. New Jersey community college students can also take advantage of the New Jersey Statewide Transfer Initiative, which facilitates credit transfers between two- and four-year institutions.
Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls 15,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
