Amelia UrenaBergen Community College student Amelia Urena is studying business administration to further her studies at a four-year university and specialize in management information systems. Urena’s overarching career goal is to be a change agent for businesses by gaining expertise in integrating technological solutions into business processes.

As an active student on campus, she serves as vice president of service for Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), secretary for the Outdoors club, and vice president of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). She volunteers at a nonprofit cat rescue, Feral Cats of Bergen County.

Urena describes how she was initially undecided during her first semester at Bergen. She felt that Bergen offered flexibility and scholarships that would benefit her.

“Bergen would provide me with the flexibility to explore my passions freely,” said Urena. “The NJ STARS scholarship I was offered significantly influenced my decision because it allowed me to focus on discovering my passions without the burden of tuition fees.”

“A contributing factor to my success at Bergen Community College was getting involved on campus and embracing any opportunities that were presented to me,” said Urena. “This involvement allowed me to connect with a community of peers and faculty that have not only inspired me but have been instrumental in my personal and academic growth, by continuously motivating me to push my boundaries and achieve my goals.” She expects to graduate in 2024.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
