PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College’s annual “Young Playwrights Festival” – with a 23-year history in Bergen County – will introduce six new one-act plays by local students Thursday, June 4 at 8 p.m.

Performed by the College’s theater arts students in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre at the institution’s main campus, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus, the ­­free and open-to-the-public event showcases the countywide playwriting competition open to elementary school, middle school, high school and college students.This year’s winning plays are:

  • “What Just Happened?,” Aideen Gannon, of Oakland, Valley Middle School
  • “Sketching Shadows,” Rachael Chau, of Midland Park, Bergen County Academies
  • “Lost and Found,” Tova Tencer, of New Milford, Bergen County Academies
  • “Friendzoned,” Alyssa Weinberg, of Park Ridge, Park Ridge High School
  • “Twenty-Three is the Luckiest Number,” Yana Abad, of Dumont, Bergen Community College
  • “Perfect Match,” Monika Michaluk, of South Hackensack, Bergen Community College

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls 16,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst.
