Bergen President B. Kaye Walter, Ph.D., presided over her third commencement as the College’s top official.
SECAUCUS, N.J. – With a turn of the tassel, the commitment to completion reached its conclusion for those in attendance among the 2,800 Bergen Community College candidates for graduation at commencement 2015 today. The class included students such as valedictorian Mariia Alibekova, of Elmwood Park, and salutatorian Michael Nehring, of Ridgewood, who both graduated with 4.0 GPAs and as members of the College’s internationally recognized Phi Theta Kappa chapter. Bergen graduates will now transfer to four-year institutions such as the University of California, Berkeley and Rutgers Business School, while others will enter the workforce to begin careers in fields such as nursing and computer networking. Joining the graduates as a member of the class of 2015, Bergen County Freeholder David L. Ganz received the institution’s first official honorary degree. Former Bergen Board of Trustees vice chair and current president and CEO of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility Cid D. Wilson delivered the keynote address to the approximately 6,000 students, faculty, staff and guests at the Meadowlands Exposition Center.
Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls 16,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
