PARAMUS, N.J. – Two Bergen Community College students have started the new academic year strong, earning $1,000 scholarships through the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honors society. Bergen PTK Chapter President TianaMarie Allen has received recognition as a 2026 Coca-Cola Leaders of Promise Scholar, while fellow PTK member Donia Eid secured the 2026 Chime Workforce Scholar award.
“We are incredibly proud of our students for consistently achieving high levels of success through their dedication to the Phi Theta Kappa hallmarks of scholarship, leadership, service and fellowship,” Bergen Assistant Director of PTK and Honors Anna Gergen said. “The scholarships that these students received demonstrate that anyone who dedicates time and effort to making the most of their community college experience will be able to unlock their fullest potential.”
Allen plans to use her scholarship to complete her associate degree in computer science before pursuing advanced degrees in software engineering, ethical technology and international law. Allen currently serves as Bergen’s robotics team vice president and previously worked as a summer research intern through the STEM Student Scholar Program.
“Receiving the news was an elating moment that filled me with immense pride and gratitude for the journey so far,” Eid said. “It serves as both a meaningful validation of my hard work and an inspiring motivation to continue pushing forward as a student leader.”
Meanwhile, Eid currently serves as president of Bergen’s respiratory care club where she organizes study groups and plans large-scale events including the College’s recognition of “respiratory care week.” She aspires to become a registered respiratory therapist so she can deliver high-quality care to patients with respiratory and cardiopulmonary disorders.
“I’m grateful for the assistance for my studies and future aspirations and thrilled about this chance,” said Eid. “I intend to keep developing in the industry and eventually look for more sophisticated respiratory care options.”
Phi Theta Kappa is the first honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders.
