What’s the tea? Tea is widely consumed throughout Africa and integrated into various cultural feasts and ceremonies. More widely shared than coffee or wine, tea is the world’s most socially shared drink. Tea rooms played a central role in African American activism and were considered the birthplace of the American Civil Rights Movement. We will introduce the Black High Tea (Bergen style) and provide information on tea’s history and tea experiences from different countries. Bring your unique teacup to the Black History Month free tea party to sip, nibble on dainties, have fun, and learn about African tea traditions and how the African American Tea Ceremony developed. The session will also demonstrate how to prepare and serve various teas.
