Grant Program: Meaningful Environmental Education using Sustainable Design Challenges
Bergen’s EPA Environmental Education program provides exploratory learning modules that will challenge high school students to think critically and engage in problem solving in order to complete Sustainability Design Challenges (SDC’s) focused on food waste that are directly tied to the recently established NJ Student Learning Standards (NJSLS). Many of these standards, although adapted for more than a year, are not yet being addressed in a meaningful way by school districts especially in the districts with limited resources to create programs around climate change and sustainability for secondary students. The College will grant sub awards to five qualified high schools serving in the North Jersey metropolitan area. The project will bring together high school faculty, college professors, students and technical experts from industry and the community to develop a broad array of SDC’s and connected assessment rubrics that address each of the recently introduced NJSLS related to Climate Change Education.
