Grant Program:

Trees for Schools: Tree-planting Grants for New Jersey Public Schools, Colleges, and Universities

The Trees for Schools program is a joint effort of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Sustainable Jersey and The College of New Jersey, and supported statewide by Greenhouse Gas Initiative (RGGI) auction proceeds. As a result of Bergen’s 2023-2026 grant awarded, the College has planted more than 120 trees across its Paramus Campus.  The award supported the preparation, purchase, installation of the saplings, and provides funding for their continued maintenance. The saplings include 42 species of trees ranging from American Hornbeam to Winter Kiung Hawthorne. This work improves campus aesthetics and will continue to provide opportunities for faculty and students in Bergen’s horticulture programs.
