Healthcare and Systemic Racism: Discussion with Dr. Uche BlackStock from Valley Hospital

March 1 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Black History Month

Dr. Uche Blackstock is an ER physician as well as a prominent advocate for health equity in our country. She speaks to audiences around the country on consequences of systemic racism on the health of BIPOC communities and brings to our awareness the extent to which clinicians of all races too often misjudge their patients’ reported experiences when delivering care, including acknowledging pain experienced by their Black patients and illnesses that result from social conditions, such as substandard housing. Dr. Blackstock will discuss social determinants of health and why healthcare reform cannot succeed without also addressing systemic racism in society and in healthcare.
