Bergen honors select professors with emeritus or emerita status when they retire. Through a process that is driven by peers and departmental committees before being approved by the President and the Board of Trustees, this status recognizes longtime contributions to the college by exceptional faculty with consistent contributions to the academic life and development of the college.
The Office of Vice President of Academic Affairs maintains the eligibility and nomination process:
- The individual has served the college for a minimum of 15 years.
- The individual has achieved the rank of full professor for a minimum of 5 years, or has a combined 10 years at the rank of full professor and associate professor.
- The individual is recognized by peers for outstanding contributions to the college.
- If the individual has died in the past 3 years and satisfies the above, the honor can be awarded posthumously.
