The first, the inaugural “Back to Bergen! Alumni Concert” in collaboration with the Bergen Community College Foundation, will take place on Thursday, April 16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre at 400 Paramus Road in Paramus. A special reception featuring hors d’oeuvres and mocktails for Bergen music alumni will take place at 6 p.m. in the theatre lobby. The concert features graduates of the Bergen music program including Steven Viola, ‘15, (classical piano), Divinity Montijo, ‘21, as DiViNiTy (pop/rock) and Gabrielle Buttacavole, ‘25, as GabbiB3 (R&B/rock).
Meanwhile, The Peter Furlan Project will play in concert on Thursday, April 23 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ciccone Theatre. The concert celebrates the release of band leader and composer Peter Furlan’s new album “Live at Maureen’s Jazz Cellar,” recorded in Nyack, New York. A saxophonist, composer, arranger and educator, Furlan will showcase his unique take on modern jazz inspired by a diverse range of musicians including Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Weather Report, Frank Zappa and Gentle Giant. He has served as Bergen’s jazz ensemble director for the past two decades.
The last of the trio of performances, “The Roots of Pop & Rock, Volume 3: The 1990s,” will take place on Wednesday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ciccone Theatre. The concert will feature the College’s pop/rock ensemble, directed by professors Andy Krikun, Ph.D., and Rod Shepard with assistance from alumna Divinity Montijo. The ensemble will pay tribute to the popular music of the 1990s with selections highlighting genres such as country, Latin, pop, rap and rock.
For all three performances, ticket prices range from $5 for students to $18 for general admission with proceeds benefiting music students through the College’s Foundation. Purchase at tickets.bergen.edu; call (201) 447-7428 for more information.
