PARAMUS, N.J. – Bringing 35 years of experience in public service and executive leadership, Michele DiIorgi has joined the Bergen Community College Board of Trustees.

“Michele carries extensive public sector experience to the College,” Board of Trustees Chair Dorothy Blakeslee said. “Her decades of knowledge, leadership and perspective will greatly benefit the Board, the College and our students.”

DiIorgi currently serves as the executive director of the Housing Authority of Bergen County, overseeing strategic operations, policy development and program implementation for the agency that develops housing opportunities for low-income families and adults. Previously, DiIorgi held numerous roles in local, county and federal government, including serving as chief of staff for Bergen County Executive James J. Tedesco III and leading district operations for two members of the U.S. House of Representatives. Among her accomplishments, DiIorgi played a critical role in the county’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

DiIorgi also serves as a trustee for Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, a commissioner on the Bergen County Commission on the Status of Women, a former elected councilwoman and a number of civic, faith-based and women’s leadership organizations. The new trustee holds multiple credentials from Rutgers University and is currently pursuing a master’s degree.

The College’s 12-person board of trustees features nine individuals appointed by the county, two by the governor, and one elected by the student body. Bergen President Eric M. Friedman, Ph.D., serves as an ex-officio member of the board.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
