PARAMUS, N.J. – More than 14,000 students helped kick off the fall semester at Bergen Community College Sept. 5, beginning an academic year that will culminate with the institution’s 50th commencement ceremony in May 2019. President Michael D. Redmond, Ph.D., greeted students at the main campus on the first day of classes and also sent the College community a video message offering words of encouragement for 2018-19.

“Not only is Bergen the largest community college in the state, in my mind, it’s the finest,” he said in the 30-second vignette. “We’re glad you’re here and we’re going to do everything this semester to help make you a success. Welcome to the fall semester.”

For students still seeking to enroll in fall classes, Bergen will offer two “flex start” schedules that begin Sept. 26 and Oct. 27. Registration hours are Monday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the main campus. Students can also register online at bergen.edu. For more information, visit bergen.edu or call (201) 447-7100.

Bergen, the state’s No. 1 institution for associate degree graduates, offers associate degrees and certificates in fields such as aviation, business administration, culinary arts, fashion design and nursing while studying under a renowned faculty – including a former U.S. Professor of the Year. Alumni have transferred to institutions such as Yale, the New Jersey Institute of Technology and the University of California, Berkeley.

The College maintains campus locations in Paramus (main), Hackensack (Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center) and Lyndhurst (Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands) while also offering online classes. Its main campus features facilities such as the Health Professions Integrated Teaching Center, the Emil Buehler Trust Observatory and Stryker Manufacturing Lab, which provide students with hands-on, practice-based learning opportunities. Day and evening classes take place throughout the week – including a “weekend college” program.

Bergen also offers numerous support services to help students remain enrolled and on a path for graduation. The College’s Cerullo Learning Assistance Center has twice earned honors as the top tutoring center in the country, while an on-campus food pantry and “career closet” target hidden challenges faced by many community college students.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 14,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
