PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College fashion students swapped couture for cans during a food drive to support the Center for Food Action pantry located at the institution. The “Fashion at Bergen” student club of approximately 100 aspiring designers and industry professionals sponsored the food drive during a March 4 runway show that took place at the College. (From left) Pantry coordinator Lisa Pitz recently accepted the donations from club members Diamond Grant, of Teaneck, and Devonnie Rowe, of Elmwood Park. Grant founded the club two years ago.

One in five community college students has struggled with hunger, according to a survey of 4,300 students conducted by the Association of Community College Trustees and nonprofit Single Stop.

Bergen’s pantry, managed by the Center for Food Action, opened in June 2014 to assist students, faculty and staff fighting hunger.
