Miloida “Milly” Hilaire

PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College women’s track and field student-athlete Miloida “Milly” Hilaire placed first in the high jump competition at the National Junior College Athletic Association’s Division III National Championship last month. The first-year student cleared a winning height of 1.49 meters to capture the national title as part of the meet taking place at Mohawk Valley Community College in Utica, New York.

“To win a national championship as a freshman speaks to her work ethic, composure, and competitive drive,” Bergen Director of Athletics Erin Van Nostrand said. “We are incredibly proud of her and excited for what the future holds.”

Also at the national championship meet, Bergen student-athlete Victor Souza placed second in the 400-meter hurdles and third place in the 110-meter hurdles; Anastasia Heiden placed sixth in the high jump; Oliver Argano placed seventh in the javelin; and Kelly Marquez finished seventh in the heptathlon.

Bergen Coordinator of Athletics and Track and Field Coach Deana Fletcher said the student-athletes worked hard to achieve positive results.

“There is no greater accomplishment for a coach than watching athletes grow, persevere, and achieve their goals,” she said. “My hope is that their accomplishments inspire more women to join the team and see the opportunities that exist here, as well as the dedication our coaching staff puts into helping student-athletes reach their potential.”

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 24,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
