PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College professor Keith Chu has earned the 2013-14 National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Award recognizing superlative teaching. He will travel to Austin, Texas in late May to receive the award at the group’s annual international conference.
Chu, of Rutherford, teaches subjects such as western civilization while serving as chair of the College’s department of history and geography. According to Chu, the award carries special significance due to its process of peer nomination.
“It’s a prestigious award,” he said. “It tells me that my colleagues respect my work – I’m very honored and humbled by the recognition.”
After earning an M.A. from the State University of New York at Stony Brook a decade ago, Chu’s job search led him to Bergen – where he found the only professional home he has ever known. Chu earned a B.A. from Rutgers University.
In addition to serving as department chair and teaching, Chu rounds his experience by participating on College-wide committees for awareness events like Black History Month, advising the chess club and playing the trumpet in a music ensemble.
