Professional Licensure Disclosure for the Respiratory Care Program

Bergen Community College is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and is reporting this information in compliance with Federal Regulation §668.43 Institutional information and CoARC Standard 1.01.

This program is designed to meet the educational requirements for respiratory therapists in New Jersey. If you intend to seek licensure outside of New Jersey after finishing the program, use the link below to find information on the state or U.S. territory in which you intend to be licensed in order to identify whether BCC’s Respiratory Care program meets or does not meet the educational requirements for licensure. If BCC’s program does not meet the educational requirements for licensure in the state or territory in question, it may meet a portion of the educational requirements. If that is the case, we recommend that you contact the licensing agency directly before beginning the BCC program. Certain states or territories may require a specific course, test, or competency license as part of the licensing process. Those requirements are independent of BCC’s Respiratory Care program requirements.

As of October 2020, this program meets the licensure requirements in those states or territories that require licensure.

CoARC accredits respiratory therapy education programs in the United States. To achieve this end, it utilizes an ‘outcomes based’ process. Programmatic outcomes are performance indicators that reflect the extent to which the educational goals of the program are achieved and by which program effectiveness is documented.

Respiratory Care Program Goals

To prepare graduates with demonstrated competence in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills) and affective (behavior) learning domains of respiratory care practice as performed by registered respiratory therapists (RRT’s).

To achieve these goals the following objectives have been set forth:

  1. Upon completion of the program, students will demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate clinical information relevant to their role as registered respiratory therapists RRT (cognitive domain).

    • NBRC Therapist Multiple Choice Self-Assessment Examination (TMC-SAE) passing rates
    • NBRC Clinical Simulation Self-Assessment Examination (CSE-SAE) passing rates
    • NBRC Certified Respiratory Therapist Entry – Level Examination (CRT) passing rates – pending CoARC’s policy changes beginning January 2020
    • NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist Examination (RRT) passing rates

    • CoARC Graduate survey
  1. Upon completion of the program, graduates will demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill their role as registered respiratory therapists RRT (psychomotor domain).
