Our Mission

The mission of the computer science, engineering, and information technologies department at Bergen Community College is to train and develop students in drafting and design, manufacturing, electronics and general engineering, and industrial technology.

The Drafting and Design program at Bergen produces qualified design-draftspersons who, in support of architects and designers, civil and MEP engineers, contractors and industrial designers, in diverse technical fields will be able to communicate design information by conventional pencil and sketch drafting, computer aided drafting, and oral communication. Drafting and design graduates will have the skills to be successful for employment or continued education in fields using both mechanical and architectural CAD (Computer Aided Drafting and Design). Career paths taken by students have included architecture, interior design, all aspects of the engineering profession, manufacturing technology, industrial design and fabrication, and facilities management.

Career Paths

The Associate of Applied Science degrees (A.A.S.)- drafting and design technology option provides students with the coursework needed to enter into entry-level positions in the workforce. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a pathway to careers including entry-level manual drafter, entry level CAD drafter, entry-level field service technician, landscape drafter, and other manufacturing and industrial technology positions. Students can take coursework and concentrated options in drafting and design technology, manufacturing technology, electronics technology, and general engineering technology. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with Bergen Community College faculty and Career Services as they begin to explore career options.

Transfer Opportunities

Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) with options in drafting and design technology, manufacturing technology, electronics technology, and general engineering technology. Students are encouraged to work closely with Bergen Community College faculty and Advising Transfer Services. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution in NJ can explore the “Transfer Programs” feature on NJ Transfer https://njtransfer.org.
