In the event of a medical or life-threatening emergency,

  1. The Registered Nurse (RN) staff will notify the Bergen Community College Department of Public Safety
  2. Department of Public Safety will call for an ambulance:
  • If the individual is in Health Services’ office, the ambulance will arrive at the rear/emergency entrance to Room HS-100, Pitkin Education Center/Building (1st floor).
This allows ambulance personnel immediate access to the patient and a rapid exit from the campus. It also ensures privacy for the patient.
  • If the patient is elsewhere on campus, the ambulance will arrive at the location which gives them the best access.

Notes: Ambulances are called based on the RN’s evaluation of the patient’s condition.

Prior to the arrival of the ambulance, RN staff will stabilize the patient, administer oxygen if needed, notify family/friends if requested, and prepare the patient for transport.
