Our Mission
The mission of the nursing program at Bergen Community College is to educate students and graduates to pass the nursing licensure examination to assume an entry-level position as a registered nurse. Nursing students are actively involved as self-directed, responsible partners in the learning process. Students are educated in the classroom, in the nursing skills and simulation laboratories and in a variety of clinical settings. Depending on their schedules, students have the option to pursue a nursing day or nursing evening program. The program uses technology such as Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) and the Human Child and Adult Patient Simulators to enhance learning, skills mastery and critical thinking in the application of the nursing process. The nursing program is approved by the New Jersey State Board of Nursing and is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.
Career Paths
The Health Professions Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) in nursing is designed to provide students with the coursework and education needed to enter into the field as a registered nurse or to transfer to a four-year institution and pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The curriculum provides students with the knowledge and skills needed to pursue a pathway to careers in nursing. Once students complete the program, they are prepared to take the registered nurse program licensure exam. Once students pass the licensure exam and requirements, they become a registered nurse. Students are strongly encouraged to consult with Bergen Community College faculty and Career Services as they begin to explore career options.
Transfer Opportunities
Students pursuing the Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) in nursing may consider transfer opportunities into other allied health and science majors or transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a bachelor’s degree in nursing. Students are encouraged to work closely with Bergen Community College faculty and Advising Transfer Services. Students planning to transfer to a four-year institution in NJ can explore the “Transfer Programs” feature on NJ Transfer https://njtransfer.org.
