PARAMUS, N.J. – Five Bergen Community College students mentored by school faculty presented at the 22nd annual Beacon Conference for writing and research June 6 at Ulster County Community College in Stone Ridge, N.Y. The contest drew 120 submissions from students at 12 community colleges in three states. Students and mentors were:
· Ye-One Chung, of Tenafly, “Machiavellian Realpolitik and Christian Kingship in Shakespeare’s Second Tetralogy,” with Professor Daniel Salerno;
· Mark Ellard, of Rutherford, “History of Prussia,” with Professor Sarah Shurts;
· Sarde Gumalo, of New Milford, “The Quest to the Empty Chapel and the Restorative Role as Reader in The Waste Land,” with Professor Brian Cordell;
· Jan Siess, of River Edge, “Is Stress a Trigger for Schizophrenia?” with Professor Anne Maganzini;
· Betsabe Saharig, of Wallington, “Women in Sumerian Culture and Literature,” with Professor Maria Makowiecka (Poster Session).
Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu) based in Paramus is a public two-year coeducational college, enrolling nearly 17,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst.
