Perhaps not in the literal sense – Wei can see just fine – but for this self-described “Chinese-Hispanic-Native American-Irish-Jew” with light skin, race means little when discussing human rights issues.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College dental hygiene program students like Delsi Barrera, of Nyack, N.Y., gave more than three-dozen children – and parents – a reason to grin Feb. 7 at the school’s 12^th annual “Give Kids a Smile Day.” Patients such as nine-year-old Laila Kelley Gold, of Maplewood, received free oral exams, cleanings – and the occasional filling – in the school’s dental hygiene clinic. The American Dental Association founded the oral health program more than a decade ago for children age 2 to 12. Bergen’s dental hygiene program offers low-cost oral healthcare available to the community throughout the year.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Ten days before Saint Patrick’s Day, Black 47 will bring Irish rock to Bergen County. The group will visit Bergen Community College Friday, March 7 for a 7:30 p.m. show in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre at the school’s main campus, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus.

PARAMUS, N.J. – If Bergen County’s winter continues at this rate, children home for President’s Day break won’t spend much time outdoors. However, this year, parents can help clear the winter doldrums with classes offered by the Bergen Community College Division of Continuing Education kids and teens program. Each class, led by a professional teacher, will meet for three days, giving kids age seven to 17 an opportunity to experience something new on their days off. All classes will take place at the school’s main campus at 400 Paramus Road in Paramus.

PARAMUS, N.J. – “Taking Pleasure,” a curated mixed-media exhibition of sculptures and paintings by five regional artists, will be on view from February 4 to March 26 in Bergen Community College’s Gallery Bergen.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Students who missed the opportunity to register for classes beginning Jan. 21 at Bergen Community College have additional options with the school’s flexible start dates. The “spring II” slate of classes begins Tuesday, Feb. 11; “spring III” begins Tuesday, March 25. Classes take place across Bergen’s three locations in Paramus (400 Paramus Road), Lyndhurst (1280 Wall Street West) and Hackensack (355 Main Street), with many general education courses offered at all sites.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Halfway through its student-led Bergenstages season, Bergen Community College’s theatre troupe will open Jerry Sterner’s “Other People’s Money,“ a dark comedy about commitment and capitalism, Friday, Feb. 21.

PARAMUS, N.J. – On Jan. 17, three-dozen fourth graders from East Newark Public School received a taste of college life during a visit with the Bergen Community College information technology department. As part of “technology day,” the grade-schoolers arrived at the College’s Paramus campus to learn about computer hardware and web development in hands-on lessons led by Bergen’s information technology department chair professor Bill Madden and professor Anita Verno (pictured). The day not only reinforced work that began in the students’ classroom during “computer science education week” last month, but also introduced the fourth-graders to a college campus and offered computer access to the young community members with limited technology resources.

PARAMUS, N.J. – The New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education recently named the Center for Peace, Justice and Reconciliation (CPJR) at Bergen Community College as an official state Holocaust and Genocide Resource Center.
