PARAMUS, N.J. – Featuring five original one-act plays by local students, the 22nd annual “Young Playwrights Festival” at Bergen Community College will take place Thursday, June 5 at 8 p.m. in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre at the school’s main campus, 400 Paramus Road, Paramus.

Performed by the College’s theatre arts students, the ­­free and open-to-the-public event showcases the countywide playwriting competition open to elementary school, middle school, high school and college students.

This year’s winning plays are:

  • “Mechanical Advancement,” Emily Donegan, Bergen County Academies
  • “Shmutz,” Shira Kindler, Bergen County Academies
  • “The Good Counselor,” Zack Eydenberg, Northern Highlands Regional High School
  • “Sweet Nothings,” Yana Abad, Bergen Community College
  • “Asleep,” Maritza Garcia, Bergen Community College

Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu) based in Paramus is a public two-year coeducational college, enrolling nearly 17,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip J. Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields.
