PARAMUS, N.J. – Over the last 50 years, more than 600,000 students have walked through the doors of Bergen Community College. At an April 12 open house for prospective students, the next generation of Bergen students will have the opportunity to do the same.
In celebration of the College’s 50-year tradition of excellence, Bergen will sponsor a comprehensive campus wide open house Thursday, April 12 from 3 to 7 p.m. at the main campus at 400 Paramus Road featuring demonstrations, workshops, tours, exhibits and opportunities for potential students and their families to explore all that Bergen offers. The open house will provide attendees with the opportunity to:
*Visit the state-of-the-art Health Professions Integrated Teaching Center and meet with current students, faculty and staff in the Interdisciplinary Center for Simulation;
*Sample culinary creations of hospitality students;
*Meet admissions representatives, faculty, coaches and student support personnel;
*Discuss the availability of financial aid and scholarships; and
*Explore STEM projects, the fashion design lab, broadcasting studio, horticulture greenhouse, animation lab, theatres, the Child Development Center, Veterans Center, flight simulators and more.
The open house will also showcase the College’s visual and performing arts programs: an art exhibition of student work will open Gallery Bergen, located on the third floor of West Hall and attendees can step backstage before Bergenstages’ 7:30 p.m. performance of “Guys and Dolls” in the Anna Maria Ciccone Theatre. Bergen, New Jersey’s largest community college with approximately 14,000 students taking classes this semester, ranks No. 1 in the state for associate degree graduates. Commemorating the 1967 hiring of Bergen’s first president, Sidney Silverman, Ph.D., and the approval of the master plan that developed the College’s main campus, the institution launched its 50th anniversary celebration last fall. To celebrate, Bergen has sponsored a number of events to recognize its history of success stories, including artifact displays at government offices and libraries, an alumni dinner and art exhibition.
