The latest issue of Inside Bergen released Oct. 1, while Studio Bergen began its fifth season this month.

PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergen Community College has earned a pair of District 1 Medallion Awards from the National Council on Marketing and Public Relations (NCMPR) lauding its communication outreach. NCMPR, an affiliate of the American Association of Community Colleges with more than 650 member colleges, recognizes excellence in community, technical and junior college marketing and public relations activities in the northeastern U.S., Canada and the U.K. through the Medallion Awards each year.

Bergen earned a silver Medallion Award for its official print newsletter, “Inside Bergen,” and a bronze Medallion Award for its monthly 30-minute news magazine television program, “Studio Bergen.”

“Improved internal and external communication became a focus area for the College during our 2013 strategic planning,” Bergen President B. Kaye Walter, Ph.D., said. “Out of that goal setting, the College developed a comprehensive communication plan that launched new strategies for community engagement and the promotion of College news and student, faculty and staff achievements. The NCMPR Medallion Awards validate this increased emphasis and recognize the outreach as superlative.”

Produced tri-annually by the College’s Office of Public Relations, the Inside Bergen newsletter debuted in 2013. The publication details College news and includes recurring features such as a faculty profile, a campus calendar and a photo collage.

Now in its fifth season, Studio Bergen, a news magazine-style television program, highlights College news in a video format. The program airs on Torch TV, channel 26 of the Verizon FIOS cable television system and via the College’s official YouTube page. Studio Bergen is a joint production of the Office of Public Relations and the Office of Media Technologies.

Managing Director of Public Relations Larry Hlavenka Jr., of Hillsdale, accepted the awards at the NCMPR District 1 “Creatively Sweet” conference in Hershey, Pa., Oct. 5 – 7.
