GARFIELD, N.J. – Guests took a step back to the era of the “Rat Pack” while raising approximately $90,000 in student scholarships March 30 at the Bergen Community College Foundation’s Club Monte Carlo. The event, which took place at the Venetian, featured the nostalgia of the 1960s during an evening of casino-style entertainment as the Foundation’s largest benefit of the year. Community college student scholarships stand as an increasingly critical component to retention and completion rates – approximately 50 percent of students believe financial issues could cause them to leave their institution, according to the Center for Community College Student Engagement.

“For many students, a Bergen Community College Foundation scholarship bridges the gap between the ability and inability to remain enrolled at the institution,” College President B. Kaye Walter, Ph.D., said. “This year’s Club Monte Carlo once again reflected the immense generosity of our Bergen community and their desire to support education and student success.”

Club Monte Carlo guests had the opportunity to win prizes such as designer handbags, sports memorabilia and getaways to destinations such as Walt Disney World.
