Bryant GomezAlumnus Bryant Gomez, ‘19, graduated from Bergen Community College in May 2019 with his professional studies associate degree. After graduating from Bergen, he went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Rutgers University-Newark and then a masters degree in psychology from the City University of New York (CUNY).

Gomez is currently a Ph.D. student in the Basic and Applied Social Psychology Program at the CUNY Graduate Center. He is also a graduate researcher at the Stigma and Identity Lab at John Jay College and at the Hunter Alliance for Research and Translation. He is also an instructor at Hunter College.

I attended Bergen because I wanted to get the opportunity to explore my interests and figure out what it is that I want to do in my professional career,” said Gomez, of Englewood. He said that Bergen also fit his needs of a college close to home that was also affordable.

“I enjoyed the community at Bergen, especially the people I met throughout my three years there,” he said. Gomez said he learned from Gregory Fenkart, Jenny Gamez, Joli Nelson, Nicole Babington, and Jared Farra from the Office of Student Life. He also commended faculty from the Judith K. Winn School of Honors, including Professors Seamus Gibbons, Mina Ahn, Ph.D., and Thomas La Pointe.

Gomez was also involved in the Student Government Association and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Bergen.

When asked to give words of encouragement to current students, Gomez said, “Explore the opportunities at Bergen and connect with faculty and staff on opportunities and extracurricular activities you can become a part of or be a member of.”

He further advised students to be on top of their classes, find mentors who align with their interests, and to not be afraid to ask questions. Gomez said, “Be an active student!”
