Social Media Producer and Host
In recognition of National Hispanic Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15, 2020), Bergen Community College recognized alumnus Diego Garces, ’07, who currently works as a social media producer and host. During the Covid19 pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests, Garces led five weeks of clean up efforts to support Black Lives Matter in front of the White House. He also dedicated time supporting the homeless population in the Washington, D.C. area by providing them with care packages, warm meals, clothing, and blankets. Garces has worked in the media industry for Telemundo, Univision, and RCN Colombia. Garces, a native of Pereira, Colombia, studied Broadcast Communications at Bergen. During his time at Bergen, he was involved in extracurricular activities in Student Life by serving on the executive boards of the Latin American Student Association, LGBT Club Association, and the Student Government Association. Garces said, “Bergen introduced me to a whole world of possibilities and cultures. It was at Bergen where I started seeing people like me who were also after their own dreams. That in itself was inspirational.”
Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 13,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
