Bergen Community College student Madison Minervini is receiving the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to study abroad in Rome, Italy this summer.
Minervini, of Saddle Brook, will be studying for one month at the American University of Rome to earn general college credits. She looks forward to meeting new people from around the world, as well as gaining a broader perspective through international education.
“As someone with strong Italian roots and family connections to Italy, I felt Rome would be the perfect place to immerse myself in the culture, history, and language while continuing my education,” said Minervini.
For her study abroad trip, Minervini received the Dr. Richard Ciccone Scholarship worth $5,000 from the Bergen Community College Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization independent of the College that supports the financial needs of Bergen students.
On top of the Foundation’s financial support toward her study abroad trip, Minervini believes that Bergen is helping her grow both personally and academically.
“I chose Bergen Community College because of its excellent reputation in healthcare education and its close proximity to my hometown,” said Minervini, who aims to become a registered nurse and work in pediatric oncology. “Being close to home allows me to balance my studies efficiently while staying connected to my support system at home.”
She also credits her success to support from Bergen’s faculty and academic advisors. “Their willingness to guide me through complex material, share real world insights, and encourage my passion for medicine has given me the confidence and tools to excel academically,” she said.
Minervini expects to graduate in 2027.
Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 24,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
