PARAMUS, N.J. – Bergenstages’ 2016-17 season will begin with “What I Did Last Summer” – a coming-of-age story about a 14-year-old boy’s self-discovery by A.R. Gurney – Friday, Oct. 28 at Bergen Community College’s Ender Hall Lab Theatre, located at its main campus, 400 Paramus Road.

Set in 1945 during the final stages of World War II, Charlie Higgins, a rebellious teenager, is spending the summer with his mother and sister on the shores of Lake Erie while his father is fighting in the South Pacific. In search of spending money, Higgins seeks employment at the home of the town outcast, Anna Trumbull, better known as the “Pig Woman” to summer residents. Trumbull, a bohemian artist, tries to stimulate and uncover Higgins’ true potential by teaching him painting and sculpture and exposing him to new ideas about life and love. A family crisis ensues as Higgins shapes into the man he is destined to become.

The show runs Thursdays through Saturdays, Friday, Oct. 28 through Saturday, Nov. 5 at 7:30 p.m.­­ On Saturday, Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, matinee performances will take place at 2 p.m.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls 15,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
